The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed lecturers in 20 universities to begin preparations for industrial action after issuing the Federal Government, state governments and affected university authorities a 14-day ultimatum.

The union is demanding the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, alongside the resolution of other outstanding issues affecting university lecturers.

ASUU warned that failure to address the issues within the 14-day period could lead to a strike, potentially disrupting academic activities at the affected institutions.

The universities affected by the directive include Nasarawa State University, Keffi; Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai; University of Medical Sciences, Ondo; Gombe State University; Plateau State University, Bokkos; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; Abia State University, Uturu; and University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa.

The union also directed its branches to document cases of alleged victimisation or interference with union activities and report such incidents to the appropriate security agencies.
